the ride

He sat quietly by her side, watching her sleep. Silently, he looked on with slight amusement as her hair bounced along with the rhythm of the bus. He was distant, yet close at the same time. Not wanting to make any abrupt movements to disrupt her sleep, he moved himself closer slowly; offering a protective arm to catch her in case she hits herself against the glass window. She looked so tired that he was not sure she should carry on with what was planned for the evening. As the bus neared its destination, he softly roused her awake.
He himself was tired as he let a yawn escaped from his mouth. Right at that moment, he felt a soft knuckle punch on his biceps.
"Eh, wake up alreaeedy. Don't sleep aaanymore. We have reeeached." So now, he's the one who has been sleeping.
He mused at her ironic remark and the slightly uncouth mannerism.
